Garrett was bright, hardworking, humble and personable with a smile that would light up every room. He was passionate about athletics, academics and social issues and always looked at the better side of everyone and the brighter side of everything. He loved life and he loved people.
Garrett graduated from Oswego High School in 2014 and was proud to be an Oswego Buccaneer. At OHS he was a high honor student, played football, basketball and lacrosse, he was involved in many clubs, and loved commentating for the BUC channel.
He graduated cum laude from St. Lawrence University in May 2018 with a BA in Rhetoric/Communications & Business. He earned the Presidential Scholarship over all four years, and a place on the Liberty League All-Academic Team for lacrosse for each of his four years. He was inducted into the National College Athlete Honors Society for being an outstanding student athlete who excels in the classroom, in their sport, and in the community. Garrett was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Male Athletes Against Sexual Violence, and SLU Student Government. He was proud to be a defensive back on the varsity football team for two years and a defenseman on the varsity lacrosse team for all four years. In sports and in life, Garrett was a true teammate—giving his all while bringing out the best in those around him.
Garrett had an incredible gift of connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds. Garrett loved working with kids and spent time helping coach youth sports. Every life was better for having known him. While Garrett is not here to fulfill his destiny, we know that he would be happy and proud to help provide youth in Oswego with more opportunities. We have established the Garrett Dunsmoor Memorial Foundation in Garrett’s memory to help his legacy live on.
