My favorite memory of Garrett, which also happens to be an unforgettable memory from my lacrosse days at RPI, was when we got to share the lacrosse field together while he was playing for St. Lawrence. Many teammates of mine shared the field with former friends, teammates, rivals, but for me, it hadnt happened until my senior year and it has always stuck with me that it was with Garrett. St. Lawrence came to RPI for my senior day and they beat us in overtime. Unfortunate outcome for me that day, but I got to see Garrett’s big smile before the game and in the handshake like afterwards, and it’s a smile you can never forget. We played St. Lawrence again a couple weeks later in playoffs, where I got to share the field with Garrett again. It’s been a while since our last game on the field together, but I think about it often and am so thankful for it. ❤️

I have so many wonderful memories growing up with Garrett- laser tag at the mall, building a float for BucFest, getting ice cream at PJs, playing lacrosse at the dome- he was always down to have fun. His smile and genuine kindness were so infectious and I’m so happy to have shared all these happy moments with him growing up.

I miss you Gduns and I think of you often. I do my best to honor your legacy and spread as much kindness like you did every day 💙♥️

My favorite memories of Garrett were when he would come to our Wave lacrosse practices and work with the defense. We were all new to the position at the time and I think we appreciated really enjoyed his presence. I remember he would always be laughing with a huge smile. You could tell that he wanted to be there and just liked being around us kids and lacrosse. I can’t remember exactly but I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I met Garrett and I’ve looked up to him ever since. Another memory I have of him is while in the drive thu at McDonalds my mom and I saw Garret running suicides by himself on Wilbur Field. I remember my mom saying Garrett has a great work ethic. I think that motivated me to be a better lacrosse player and more disciplined going forward in life. Whenever I think about Garrett and how nice he treated us it brings a smile to my face.
— Jack O'Leary

Senior year of high school Garrett would pick me up in the mornings and drive us to school. You could get into the SUV just fine on the passenger side, but the door handle wouldn’t work from the inside. Garrett would always come around and have to open the door for me, but I think he would have done it anyway - that’s just the sweet, thoughtful person he was. A reminder that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can leave the biggest impact. I think of him so often and try to remember to live every day like he would ❤️

We shared many laughs while watching Semi-Pro in our hotel room in Virginia Beach while we were there for our SLU lax trip.

One of my favorite times of the year for many years was around Christmas time when the Dunsmoor’s and Hoffman’s would get together. Us kids truly became so close. I remember all of our silly antics from watching movies on the projector in Judy and Johnny’s room (Titanic and A Walk To Remember), playing charades with the whole family and then going back and forth between the hot tub and sledding - in our bathing suits. Now we all brought something to the table in our little group, and Garrett brought the energy and a lot of the laughs. As a young kid, Garrett was someone that I looked up to and he was only 3 years older than me. He was composed, kind and loving to the core, a true role model. I love and miss you G - we all do, and I think about you nearly everyday. I call on you a lot when the going gets tough and you rarely fail me. Can’t wait to see you on the other side.
— Brian Hoffman

Remembering when Garrett wanted to take me to the prom, but I respectfully declined. That’s my story and I am sticking to it. 😜

One of my favorite memories with Garrett was over an October Break heading back to SLU. We both were home and he asked if I was headed back up from Skaneateles and if he could grab a ride. I happily obliged and he said he’d provide some jersey mikes subs as form of payment.

We got no less than 10 miles away from the Oswego exit when the front tie rod snapped off my beautiful 2004 Ford Explorer (Eddie Bauer edition) rendering us helpless. Of course it then started to pour rain and we were sent scrambling. I called AAA and had enough mileage to have them bring us to a Canton car shop….. where interestingly enough Garrett’s car was located after being worked on 😂.

We got towed all the way to canton, while seated in my Explorer, enjoying subs, polar seltzers, and a few podcasts and laughs about the upcoming week.

Garrett dropped me off at my dorm and thankfully reminded me i would see him the next morning in our 8 AM public speaking class. A whirlwind road trip I always remember!! ❤️

When I was quite a bit younger, we drove to Thunder Island water park. It was a super hot summer day, and to pass time in the car we played the alphabet game. Garrett at the time was wearing his glasses, and he was really good at spotting letters. I told him he had to take off his glasses because it was an unfair advantage. I thought they were like his superpower. He laughed, and when he took them off, he was still good at spotting letters :)

We have so many great memories of Garrett, honestly, I could write a book. They all stand out but one has a special place in my heart, at his College graduation we all went back to the motor home and he thanked us for coming and gave us a hug, but in a very few seconds he said Aunt Joyce that wasn’t a big enough hug and proceeded to give me the best hug ever, but that was Garrett. We have pictures all over our house of Garrett so I talk to him every day. One day we will be together again and I’m going to return the hug he gave me. Love you, and will always miss you, Garrett. 🙏😘
— Joyce Dunsmoor

Always loved cutting his hair! He always had a huge smile every time he came in! His smile was so contagious 😁 And... every time I saw him anywhere, he always made time to make sure he came over to me and said hello and ask how I was. Didn’t matter who he was with. That always made me feel like a million bucks🥰love that boy and miss him so much!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️😇

I think about Garrett coming up to lacrosse camp with Dylan as a coach/counselor. He was always great with the campers as you can imagine. His patience never wore thin on those long, hot days in late June with “energetic” lacrosse players yearning for his attention. He knew perfectly how to relate to them and to make them all feel special on the field or in the dorm. His demeanor was perfect for that type of position. As you can see in the picture, he felt right at home in the middle of the group with that memorable warm smile that was his trademark! We miss you Garrett and thank you for the great memories that you shared with our family.

One of my favorite memories with Garrett was when MacKenzie, Garrett, Dylan and I were all crowded together on their parents bed, while Dylan showed us all of the magic tricks he learned with his magic kit. The laughter really never ended in that house. I also used to love when Garrett would tell everyone we were cousins, and even though technically we are not related, I loved that we all felt like family.

I met Garrett through youth basketball with my son. Chris and Dylan played together on the St. Paul’s travel team and they also played in the OYBA league on opposing teams. Garrett was always at the practices with his dad helping him coach when I was coaching Chris’s team. Soon I got to know Garrett and it was an immediate impression of what a personable and polite young man he was. Every time I saw him, he would always say “hi Mr. Cote” and ask me how we were doing. He’d get right on the court with the boys and play with them. The smile on Garrett’s face was as pure and genuine as his politeness. Just a great young man taken from us way too soon. John, Judy, Mackenzie and Dylan, thanks for all you have done for the community in Garrett’s honor. His memory will live on forever.
— Chris Cote

So many great memories that continued into middle and high school, but I always will remember having so much fun camping together in Old Forge. Also, Garrett’s handprints are still on the basement wall at my parents’ house 14 years later ❤️

The nicest, most sincere, caring and compassionate young man ever!

Every memory of Garrett is special to me. From the day he was born to the last time I saw him at a lacrosse game, he always made me smile. I remember having to protect myself constantly from his jabs below the belt when he was very young and always wanted to fight. I was so proud of the young man he became and all the lives he touched. He will always be missed but will live on in my memories forever! Miss you Garrett!

I’ll never forget the memories Garrett and I made through Lacrosse. Coming in as a freshman I was thrown into the faceoff group where Garrett and I spent a lot of time together. Every day we went at it and no matter how many battles we had, we always walked away with smiles on our faces.

First met Garrett after a game the Saints won. We were newbies to all and his eyes and his smile were so genuine as he welcomed us into a family we will always cherish and support. Loved him. 🧡

I was one year bellow Garrett at St. Lawrence and was lucky enough to be able to spend time with him. We were both on the lacrosse teams and communication majors. From sophomore year on I had many classes with Garrett, and they were always full of laughs. In each of these PCA classes you really had to be able to get out of your comfort zone and express yourself and Garrett was the perfect example for all of us. Always stepping up, and being a leader in such an easy-going way. He is such a light for us all. ♥️

Garrett was one of the tour guides for entering freshman at Oswego High School a couple weeks before our child started his ninth grade year. Garrett was the most affable, likable, and personable young men you could ask for when it came to this role. We were thankful to have someone like Garrett help introduce our son to the high school. He was truly a top-notch ambassador!

I will never forget the wonderful moments we shared together. ❤️💙❤️ You are my second family and Garrett was like a best friend and brother at once. He was the sunshine in person and always there for me. Thinking of the days we shared together in 2012, where I was honored to spend time with the most loving and caring family. I am more than thankful for everything and also the time two years ago in Hamburg - the Fishmarket really early in the morning, the public soccer viewing at my favorite Bar, the nights we went out having so much fun. You were always in the best company having Garrett around, his open and positive nature infects everyone and it was a gift to be able to spend time with him. I am very honored to have met such a wonderful person in my life - I will keep these moments close to my heart - forever ❤️

When it comes to Garrett l, I can’t think of just ONE memory. I spent so much time with him and his family that I have many memories. So, if its okay, I’d like to share a few.
My favorite being, he’s my forever, Favorite Dunsmoor. He’d say that to get a rise out of Macky and Dyl, then I just started to go along with it. Dylan even to this day will say G is my favorite.
Another good one, Garrett was about 8 years old and I had taken him to indoor soccer practice at the armory, we got out of my jeep and I had told him “GARRET BE CAREFUL THE PARKING LOT IS COVERED IN....” I did’t get the full sentence out. See, the parking lot was a sheet of ice, I had fallen. I had never heard a kid laugh as hard as G did that night.
Alright two more and I’m done!
G, Dyl and I went to the drive in, for their dusk-till-dawn show. They played movies until 6am, if you lasted until 3am they served breakfast pizza and chocolate milk, with aside of a stomach ache. Dylan fell asleep somewhere around 9pm, but G and I were so proud of ourselves for lasting the whole night, we got our chocolate milk, pizza, and of course aside of stomach ache. We had a great time though and when we turned around and checked on Dyl he was sound asleep! Someone couldn’t hack dusk-till-dawn.
Alright last one, my last summer of living in Connecticut I was back and forth from Oswego and Connecticut. Judy and Johnny hired me to work on their house painting, yard work anything to keep me busy. It was one of the best summers of my life really. G worked on the farm all of that summer as he did every summer. If he came home though, and I was still at their house when he got home, he would find me in any room that I was in and scare me so bad with this loud “HELLLOOOOO” like Mrs. Doubtfire, followed by a “so are we going to Rudys?!?!” Clearly, if I was there we were going to Rudys.
G you’re still my favorite. Every time I go to Rudys I think of you, every time the Pats or Sox play I think of you. You’re always in my heart.
